Withings New Health Wearables Include World's 1st ECG-Capable Analog Watch

Withings was one of the first tech companies to investigate health and fitness. After a brief time when it belonged to, and was renamed by, Nokia, Withings is itself again and today announced a series of products, on the eve of the CES electronics trade show in Las Vega which opens on Tuesday, January 8.

I’ve been a fan of Withings for a while now, and the latest products seem to show a manufacturer flourishing in its new-found independence. Here are the products to look out for.
Withings Move ECG can measure an electrocardiogram when you touch the bezel.WITHINGS
Withings Move ECG
This is the world’s first analog smartwatch which can record a medical-grade electrocardiogram (ECG). Like the Steel HR, this new watch has real hands instead of a OLED screen. A secondary dial shows the user’s step count from 0 to 100%. It can track calories burnt, pace, distance and elevation, that is, monitoring the number of floors climbed. This last metric is new to Withings and is useful, the company says, for those focused on their heart health.

It is also capable of advanced sleep tracking and can wake the wearer, silently, at the optimum moment in the sleep cycle.
But the standout feature here is the capability to measure ECG on the wrist, something that currently only happens on the Apple Watch Series 4. It uses three electrodes, two in the body of the watch, the third in the watch bezel. To take a ECG, the wearer simply touches both sides of the bezel.
As part of the announcement, Eric Careel, President of Withings, said,

The ability for people to take an ECG in real-time as they experience a symptom such as palpitation or shortness of breath makes the Withings Move ECG a game changer. While providing medical grade measurements, the elegant watch looks nothing like a bulky medical device. With Move ECG we have created a cardiovascular early warning system that can be worn every day, can capture and record cardiovascular events as they occur and help reduce the risks of heart disease.”
