Team India thrashed Australia in the opening ODI in Hyderabad by six wickets and with the emphatic victory skipper Virat Kohli entered another record books.
Arguably the best batsman in world cricket right now, Kohli also proved to be a phenomenal captain after Mahendra Singh stepped down from the position. Some may criticise him for his decisions on the field but the statistics have something else to prove.
After victory in first ODI against Australia, Kohli has now surpassed Sir Vivian Richards in the list of most wins after 64 ODIs as captain. The 30-year old has now led India to 48 victories in the 64 ODI overtaking Caribbean great Richards tally of 47.
Ricky Ponting and Clive Llyod are the only ones who are above King Kohli in the elite list. While Ponting tops the list with 51 victories while Lloyd in just one short behind him with 50.
On Saturday, India produced a clinical bowling performance, led by Mohammed Shami, to restrict Australia to 236 for seven. The hosts then returned to chase down the target with Dhoni and Kedar forging a 141-run unfinished partnership to score 240 for four in 48.2 overs.
"It was a difficult sort of a game. We did a good job with the ball. You have experience with MS and flair with Kedar. I think Kedar and MS took responsibility, it was great. I think the bowling (won the game for us)," Kohli said.
Shami (2/44) and Kuldeep Yadav (2/46) scalped two wickets and Kohli said India's bowling performance augurs well for the team as they head to the World Cup in a few months' time.
