InnAccel launches portable neo-natal respiratory support system, made in India

Bengaluru based medical technology innovation startup InnAccel has launched an infrastructure independent portable neo-natal CPAP (Continuous Positive Airwave Pressure) system, mainly aimed to at providing respiratory support to newborns suffering from respiratory problems during transportation from primary health care centres to super-speciality hospitals.

Developed by Coeo Labs, a division of InnAccel, the product which is named SAANS is the only CPAP device with multiple power options, including a patented manual mode. The robust, portable device which requires minimal skill to use can help reduce one of India’s major causes of infant mortality.

In a statement shared with the press, InnAccel said that the product has been conceptualized in collaboration with Dr. Kristian Olson (USA) and Dr. Data Santorino (Uganda) of the Consortium of Affordable Medical Technologies (CAMTech).

The only CPAP device designed specifically for use in transport and secondary care settings, SAANS can deliver an output of unblended air, an air-oxygen mixture or oxygen as needed, and allows physicians to customize pressure and flow within recommended ranges for neonatal CPAP.

At present, SAANS is undergoing clinical evaluation in Bengaluru. Tested on 69 neonates as of February 2018, results have shown a 100% of survival rate and 96% CPAP therapy success rate.

“In rural areas where facilities are limited, many babies don’t even get the opportunity to receive CPAP treatment. Also, CPAP devices that are currently available in the market are not just expensive, but also designed only for use in the NICU (neo-natal Intensive Care Unit). We wanted to address this gap with our unique offering,” said Siraj Dhanani, Founder, CEO, InnAccel Technologies. “SAANS is an India-specific solution that resolves this critical issue of non-availability of CPAP in non-NICU settings and during transport to a NICU.”
