Gujarat is all set to celebrate International Yoga Day on June 21 in a big way. Mass yoga gatherings will be organised at religious, cultural and historical locations including Ambaji, Somnath, Lothal and World Heritage sites like Rani Ki Vav. Yoga will also be performed at Kirti Mandir in Porbandar, Mahatma Gandhi's birth place.
Gujarat Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama said that 150 such places have been identified where yoga will be performed. Overall in Gujarat, yoga will be performed at more than 50,000 places.
Governor O.P. Kohli and Chief Minister Vijay Rupani will lead the celebrations from the main function to be organised at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad. The minister said that an estimated 1.51 crore people are expected to take part in the state-wide programmes.
More than 1,000 saints and heads of various religions will take part in a programme to be held near the Statue of Unity near the Sardar Sarovar Dam site in Kevadia Colony.
This time, the theme will be “Yoga for Heart Care”, Chudasama said, adding that representatives of voluntary organizations and industrial units will also take part.
